New Drug ( pink pop rock ) in Schools ...

Warn your children and pass info to friends! Please pass this on even if
you do not have kids in school. Parents should know about this killer
drug.

There is a very scary thing going on in the schools right now that we all
need to be aware of.

There is a type of crystal meth going around that looks like strawberry
pop rocks (the candy that sizzles and 'pops' in your mouth). It also
smells like strawberry and it is being handed out to kids in school
yards. They are calling it strawberry meth or strawberry quick.

Kids are ingesting this thinking that it is candy and being rushed off to
the hospital in dire condition. It also comes in chocolate, peanut
butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange.

Dangerous candies can cause death!

Please instruct your children not to accept candy from strangers and even
not to accept candy that looks like this from a friend (who may have been
given it and believed it is candy) and to take any that they may have to
a teacher, principal, etc. immediately.

Kindly pass this email on to as many people as you can (even if they
don't have kids) so that we can raise awareness and hopefully prevent any
tragedies from occurring.

I will share with you a skill I learned when I was doing my MSc in California. This skill is about how to make stained glass.

If you have nothing better to do and if you are unemployed, then try to pick up this skill.

You will need:
a diamond or carbide cutter (untuk potong kepingan kaca ikut bentuk)
a lot of colourful glass (ketuk pecah botol, mangkuk kristal etc dan susun ikut warna)
a roll of lead piping
a copper foil (beli kat kedai hardware)
a scalpel (untuk potong lead piping)
a soldering iron
a soft painting brush
a pair of pliers
a light table
a piece of sandpaper
a burnisher

Work on a clean wooden table top. Try to clean before and after you complete your work each day.

Muamar Gaddafi was brutally killed in his own country, by his own people, who say they are Muslims, which is a sad thing.

Gaddafi is known to have followed the way of life as a Muslim leader. He did not live in a palace but lived in a tent, in Libya, the land of his father and forefathers. He died a true believer in Islam. His rule was his Jihad.

In Gaddafi's Libya, there was no income tax, and a lot of things were made available to the Libyan people for free - medicine, hospital, education etc. Why did his countrymen kill him then? They were coerced and coaxed by outside forces, people who are against Islam.

Gaddafi never bent to outside forces so they had to get rid of him - by killing him, using his own people.

Libya lost its leader; Islam lost a Muslim leader.

The Thai floods occur again after months of heavy rain. This is the worst flood in 60 years, the last was in 1951. The Chao Phraya overflowed its banks, and flood a third of Thailand. The flood is approaching Bangkok where the government buildings are located.

A lot of things is Thailand have come to a standstill, including car assembly, and industries. Toyota Wish is assembled in Thailand.

We still get rice from Thailand. Rice is now RM88/25-kg bag at Bukit Bunga. Will we continue to enjoy fresh vegetables and good rice from Thailand?

Have our Malaysian depts learned anything from Thailand? Is Malaysia prepared to produce enough food for its own people? Has Malaysia learned its lessons? Are we ready? Who is ready?

Almost all Malaysian "wet markets" are wet, slippery, dirty and smelly. I try not to go to the fresh market if I can help it.

I have lived in Kelantan for 24 years now but I don't go to the fresh market at all.

I visited Pasar Siti Khadijah's new annex in Kota Bharu, for the first time today.

I never had time to enter the annex at all and today is my big day in the fresh market. I have some photos when it was being built but I will need to search for it in my HD.

Raja bersiong

Have you heard of "Raja Bersiong" the movie? This thing looks like "bersiong" but it is a tuber (ubi). It is called "ubi seladang". Yes, it is ubi seladang. Seladang is an animal much like a buffalo except it is bigger and uglier. This horn-like structure, called "ubi bersiong" resembles the horns of the seladang, and therefore is named ubi seladang. "Siong" is a Chinese name. "Gigi siong" refers to the incisors which look like horns or fangs. It is these horns for which the famous movie was entitled "Raja Bersiong". Raja Bersiong the movie, is an old Malay movie of a ruler who was cruel? I can't remember the full story. You can write about Raja Bersiong.

This ubi seladang was found today at Pasar Siti Khadijah in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. I have never seen this thing. This is my first time seeing ubi seladang which reminds me of Raja Bersiong, the movie.

Photography is the best hobby

If you don't have a hobby yet, then take up photography. Here is where to pick up your skills. Look at the photos and then decide what you need (a good camera) and go ahead. Learning to appreciate nature is a good start. Capture the environment - flowers, birds, houses, roads, people, houses, trees, landscape, etc. Soon you will discover that you like to photograph certain objects, keep focus and do zoom. Zoom will give you a lot of unexpected award-winning snapshots and make you happy. Some people prefer to do wedding photography and get real busy during the wedding seasons (school holidays and long holidays) and become rich. Some only do portraiture and family photos and become rich.

As for me, I started learning manual photography in Form 4/5 at Tunku Kurshiah College, then went on my own to do landscape and small plants, mostly nature. I like flowers so I usually would go up to the mountains to photoshoot California poppies in full bloom, etc. It pays to take good shots and keep them for your cucu-cicit if the photos can last that long. In the old days we depended on photo prints and they faded with time. Nowadays, you can save photos in several formats and keep them for longer (not forever though). Have fun! Enjoy photography.

Cancer rate increases in our society. A cure for cancer for an afflicted person is the sarang angkut-angkut (wasp hive) in his own house, and the pokok semalu (forget-me-not plant). For any disease or condition that involves swelling, the pokok semalu is the cure as it will reduce the swelling.

Take the pokok semalu, air zamzam and sarang angkut-angkut, and pound to a paste. Read Ayat al-Quran. Apply the paste to boils, swellings, etc. It will feel cool. It takes the heat away.

Stroke

Stroke occurs increasingly in our society and is a cause of great concern. It is important to note down the details of a stroke. The time & venue it occurs and the body part(s) affected are important.

In Islam, if the stroke occurs in the toilet, that is thought to be caused by syaitan. A stroke with a drop-shoulder (bahu jatuh) is severe.

In Islamic Medicine, freshly squeezed goat's milk is taken for stroke. An Ayat from Surah Yaasin is read before drinking the goat's milk. This was taught by Gibreel (Jibra'il) to Nabi Muhammad s.a.w., who used this technique to overcome the stroke in his grandson, Hassan, who was playing in the sand and suffered a stroke.

Guess what? I went out with my family after work, about an hour before Maghrib, to do some shopping at TESCO. Guess what I saw? I saw the first flyover in KB, still in raw cement, unpainted, but beautifully linked from my left to my right, from Pasir Mas side to KB Mall side. It was such a sight! My husband said that is KB's first flyover! Since it is our first flyover in KB, I thought to share that rare sight here.

Why did the Brazilian boy die? Where would the gas jet shoot? Up the esophagus, into the trachea, into the lungs, fill up the lungs, boy suffocates and dies? Probably. Ask the Coca-Cola and Mentos people, they should know better.

House razed to the ground (rumah terbakar)

One family of 10 children was left without a roof when their house burnt down on the first day of Ramadhan in Kg Chicha, a few minutes from where I live. Their parents have died long ago. On the day of the fire, the eldest sister (who was already married with 4 children) had cooked ayam masak merah and daging goreng for buka puasa. She had switched of the stove and then left for work. However, the house burned down completely except for a wall or two. Two of the children will be taking exams this year, one in Form 3 (PMR) and the other in Form 5 (SPM). The Form 5 male student was sleeping under the house when the fire burned the house. He was saved by his brother. Some of the children cannot attend school as they don't have school uniforms (everything was burnt). I was made to understand that the children are sleeping under canvas on the burnt site.

Tok Guru Nik Aziz had visited the children and donated. Please come forward and help the children.

MVA at Kg Chicha, Jalan Pasir Puteh

This motor-vehicular accident (MVA) occurred in the morning on Tuesday, 21 June 2011 as I was on my way to work. It occurred just before the U-turn lane close to Taman KUB, Kg Chicha. Two black vehicles were involved. One was a black Unser and the other a black Mitsubishi. It appeared as if the Unser was nearing the U-turn lane and the Mitsubishi had hit the left rear corner of the Unser. Both vehicles were damaged. The Unser was damaged in the left rear corner. The Mitsubishi had major front damage - the bonnet was badly damaged. The Mitsubishi was usually parked at PPSK basement in USM Health Campus.

Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate, commonly abbreviated DEHP, is an organic compound with the formula C₆H₄(C₈H₁₇COO)₂. It is sometimes called dioctyl phthalate and abbreviated DOP. It is the most important "phthalate," being the diester of phthalic acid and the branched-chain 2-ethylhexanol. This colourless viscous liquid is soluble in oil, but not in water. It possesses good plasticizing properties. Being produced on a massive scale by many companies, it has acquired many names and acronyms, including BEHP and di-2-ethyl hexyl phthalate.

Due to its suitable properties and the low cost, DEHP is widely used as a plasticizer in manufacturing of articles made of PVC. Plastics may contain 1% to 40% of DEHP. It is also used as a hydraulic fluid and as a dielectric fluid in capacitors. DEHP also finds use as a solvent in lightsticks.
The illegal use of the plasticizer DEHP in clouding agents for use in food has been reported in Taiwan.

DEHP has a low vapor pressure, but the temperatures for processing PVC articles are often high, leading to release of elevated levels, raising concerns about health risks (see outgassing). It can be absorbed from food and water. Higher levels have been found in milk and cheese. It can also leach into a liquid that comes in contact with the plastic; it extracts faster into nonpolar solvents (e.g. oils and fats in foods packed in PVC). Food and Drug Administration (FDA) therefore permits use of DEHP-containing packaging only for foods that primarily contain water. In soil, DEHP contamination moves very slowly because of its low solubility in water. Therefore, leaching from disposed plastics in landfills is generally slow. The US EPA limits for DEHP in drinking water is 6 ppb. The U.S. agency OSHA's limit for occupational exposure is 5 mg/m³ of air.

DEHP has been used as a plasticiser in medical devices such as intravenous tubing and bags, catheters, nasogastric tubes, dialysis bags and tubing, and blood bags and transfusion tubing, and air tubes. For this reason, concern has been expressed about leachates transported into the patient, especially for those requiring extensive infusions, e.g. newborns in intensive care nursery settings, hemophiliacs, and kidney dialysis patients. According to the European Commission Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER), exposure to DEHP may exceed the tolerable daily intake in some specific population groups, namely people exposed through medical procedures such as kidney dialysis. The American Academy of Pediatrics has advocated not to use medical devices that can leach DEHP into patients and, instead, to resort to DEHP-free alternatives.In July 2002, the U.S. FDA issued a Public Health Notification on DEHP, stating in part, "We recommend considering such alternatives when these high-risk procedures are to be performed on male neonates, pregnant women who are carrying male fetuses, and peripubertal males" noting that the alternatives were to look for non-DEHP exposure solutions; they mention a database of alternatives.

The CBC documentary The Disappearing Male raised concerns about sexual development in male fetal development, miscarriage (as DEHP is a pseudo-estrogen and a hormone modifier found in most plastic products such as PVC, polycarbonate, nearly all cosmetic chemical products, and many others), and as a cause of dramatically lower sperm counts in men.

DEHP hydrolyzes to MEHP (mono-ethylhexyl phthalate) and subsequently to phthalate salts. The released alcohol is susceptible to oxidation to the aldehyde and carboxylic acid.

Smaller penis size and other feminizing links

DEHP metabolites measured from the blood of pregnant women have been significantly associated with the decreased penis width, shorter anogenital distance, and the incomplete descent of testes of their newborn sons, replicating effects identified in animals. Approximately 25% of US women have phthalate levels similar to those in the study.

Obesity

A study on CDC data published in Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), revealed that American men with abdominal obesity or insulin resistance (a precursor to diabetes) were more likely to have high levels of DEHP and DBP metabolites in their urine than men without those problems.^[8]^{[dead link]}

Orkid and I grew up in Malacca. She was 10 years my senior. She was a thin tall mixed Caucasian girl (budak Serani). We lived in Banda Hilir. We came out to play hantu galah on the sand near my family home in the evening when it was cooler.

Later Orkid's family moved and she followed. The next I heard about her she was singing ghazal. Orkid was famous for this particular ghazal, Penawar Rindu. Then she obtained Datinship. The last I heard of her was her recent hospitalisation and I watched her on TV. Then I heard she had passed away. Orkid died on Friday, 13 May 2011. It was very sad to hear news of her death. When she passed away her husband was in ICU. Datin Orkid Abdullah's husband, Datuk Mokhtar Omar (70) died in Hospital Ampang at about 6.45 am on Tuesday, 17 May 2011. He died four days after Orkid's demise.

I love ghazal and I grew up in Malacca learning how to sing ghazal. I had a gambus which belonged to my father who also had a kompang - two instruments to make a good ghazal.

We have MPKB (Majlis Perbandaran Kota Bharu) staff sweeping the roadsides in the morning when the roads are dry and dusty. When the road is swept, there is dust that goes up into the air and when there's wind, the dust flies about. The photo above was captured at the roadside just a bit farther from Pasar Segar. If you look closely you see curls of dust forming as the man sweeps the dry sand. The faster he sweeps, the more dust curls form and the wind pushes all that towards the roadside stalls selling food. What can possibly happen when wind blows dust towards the food stalls? Of course, dust will enter the food or settle on the food. What can possibly happen to us when we eat contaminated food? I think we all know already. So the next time you see something like this, imagine the people who get sick from eating food sold at roadside food stalls.

Scenario 1

Well, most cyclists at kampung level are expert at crossing narrow bridges made from coconut trunks, and therefore "hati-hati" would just be a reminder to be careful. That's all.

Scenario 2

You are cutting a soft cake and your bakery teacher says "Hati-hati potong, kek tu lembik, silap potong habis ranap!" So that would mean, take care when cutting the cake for if you don't then the cake may turn into crumbs. Something like that I think.

Scenario 3

Let's say your pretty daughter wants to go on a date with her new boyfriend. They didn't learn anything much in the first place, so how can they answer exam questions
They didn't have time to revise
Revision period was too short to revise everything taught in class
Exams are meant to fail 5% of students (left end of the normal Gaussian curve)
If many smart students sit for the same exam and scored, the weak and average students will tend to fail which is expected but students won't know where they stand wrt exam performance at the time of exam anyway until the results are out
So what if students fail; it's not the end of the world. The world won't end when someone fails an exam but it lives on! Why worry?
They make difficult exam questions so that some students will fail anyway, on any exam
Ask the blokes who set the exam questions - damn it!
They asked questions beyond what was taught in class - it's unfair!
Had no idea what was coming out for exam - no clues but can only guess/spot, spotted the wrong ones
Blame the teacher/lecturers because they set the exam questions - they should know what to ask to make us pass. They are cruel to fail us when we are learners. Our future depends on our performance on every exam, teachers/lecturers know that too. So why fail the students? We are not stupid! They are! Our parents should start blame them, not us.
We took exams as instructed. How are we to know we will fail? We just tried our best. Anything can happen during an exam.
Does it really matter that students fail exams? Why are you so worried about that, heh?
There are 1001 things to worry about, why worry about students failing? It's part of the learning process.
Failing is great because you get to leave school earlier than everybody in your class! Feels great!
All successful people failed their classes and courses and became dropouts. Why worry? Nobody knows the future anyway.
Failing is failing, full-stop. You usually recover and perform better on the next exam. Learning from mistakes and failures are a good push factor for future success

Small matter, goes away with the wind. You only worry when you get the results but can go out and play football in the evening. It hurts just a little. There's more to life and living than just failing an exam or all exams. No need to worry.

The standard Malay word petis refers to the dark-coloured thick molasses-like shrimp paste that is used for making kuah rojak.

The Kelantanese word pitis initially referred to metal coins, the old currency that was used by the state of Kelantan, in the 16th and 19th centuries.

Currencies used in Kelantan in the 16th and 19th centuries were:

(i) duit syiling Kijang (the mousedeeer coins),
(ii) dinar Matahari (sun dollars), and

(iii) syiling emas bertulisn Arab di kedua belah muka (gold coins with Arabic scripts
on both faces of the coins).

A small brick building without windows was once used for storing pitis in Kelantan. This is Bank Pitis (money bank). Bank Pitis is located in front of Istana Balai Besar, at the edge of Dataran Quran (Quran Square) near the LHDN (Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri) building in Kota Bharu. The building was first used as tempat menyimpan pitis (state treasury) during the reign of Sultan Muhammad II (1889-1890), his real name was Long Kundor bin Sultan Ahmad. He had used Bank Pitis as bilik kebal (strong room) to store the state's money (wang perbendaharaan Negeri) and important documents of the Kelantan state government.

Bank Pitis occupies the spot that had previously been the location of the administrative office of the Kelantan state government (bangunan pentadbiran kerajaan Kelantan) which was called Opis Panjang (long office). Opis Pajang was transferred from Kuala Krai to Kota Bharu and was demolished in 1940s.

In 1906, the state of Kelantan produced its own currency called pitis. Pitis was made of tin (timah) and was flattened round pieces of tin with a round hole in the centre. The value of pitis was 5 pieces of pitis was equivalent to 1 cent (1 sen).

In 1909, Kelantan stopped producing its pitis when the British started producing the Straits States coins.

Bank Pitis was no longer in use when the first mercantile bank (bank perdagangan), The Mercantile Bank of India Ltd. was established in Kota Bahru in 1912.

Chinese and Malay coins or Kelantan pitis as they appeared in the book, Twentieth Century British Impression of Malaya which was published in 1908.

Today, pitis is a general word that refers to money and includes both coins and paper notes. In the spoken Kelantanese accent, pitis is pronounced as pitih with the 's' sound substituted by a 'h' sound. So you will hear, "Mu ado pitih ko?" (Do you have money or not?) and the reply, "tak dok pitih, weii" (I've no money) or "pitih ado tapi tok cukok" (I have money but it's not enough).

Beating the traffic lights is a favourite road abuse among Malaysians who couldn't care less about road safety and the safety of other road users! Just today, at around 7 pm near Balai Islam, Lundang traffic lights, an Indian lady driving a golden car sped past the red traffic lights (car plate KV; don't know what model, could be old Ford Laser or old Proton Saga). I was startled! How could she do that?!

We drove as normal when the traffic light changed to green. We went past Balai Islam and reached Bilal junction but the Indian lady's car was not there. She must have gone so fast, wanting to reach home before dark.

When we reached the Kubang Kerian junction, we saw her car again, this time her car was behind another car in the far left lane. That car in front of her must have saved her from beating the Kubang Kerian traffic light.

I just feel, crazy drivers exist on Malaysian roads. We "safe & berhemah" drivers must do something about these "hell drivers".

Nefertiti means "Beauty of Aten" or "the Beautiful one has come" in Pharaoh language. Was Nefertiti a show-off? Was she really beautiful?

Nefertiti became Queen of Pharaohs and her spouse Akhenaten was King Amenothep. Nefertiti started her own religion which she brought to a new place, Amarna, to escape being murdered by the Pharaoh priests. Together with her husband, they spread sun worship (penyembah matahari).

Nefertiti was thought to be a beautiful women & mother with a slim swan-like neck and a beautiful face and lips. Her bust with an oversized heargear lies in the German museum even though the Egyptians want her back in Egypt as Egypt believes she was stolen and brought to Germany in 1920s. She had also appeared naked and her naked statue is at the museum. Nefertiti had three kids.

Mangalitsa hogs were initially wild boars bred for lard (lemak babi). When lard prices fell and lard was no longer in demand, farmers bred them for wool with the help of genetic engineering. This is the era of animal husbandry and biotechnology and similarly pigs can be turned into sheeps! Don't be surprised if you cannot tell apart hogs/wild pigs from sheeps! Lessons learnt from the arrogance of the giants

From stories in the Quran, we know that Nabi Hud had taught his people, kaum 'Ad. But because kaum 'Ad had lived fabulously rich lifestyles, they did not heed Nabi Hud's message about the teachings of Islam. Because Nabi Hud was very upset about the arrogance of kaum 'Ad, he made a doa to Allah, begging Allah to destroy kaum 'Ad. So Allah sent down a big flood that swept away kaum Ad and their belogings (was it tsunami?). The people of kaum 'Ad and their properties floated and disappeared!

The place where kaum 'Ad had lived was between present day Yemen and Oman. It was called Al-Ahqaf. Today that place is banned from human habitation (nobody wants to live there anyway because of what happened). Another account states that a strong wind or sound blew them dead!

Therefore, we must remember, even if we are ahead in technological advances, we must still heed Allah's warnings and teachings in the Quran. If not, we will suffer the same fate as what had happened to kaum 'Ad. The recent discovery of the remains of kaum 'Ad should make us feel remorse and also repent. Kaum 'Ad people were giants compared to us today.

Have the advanced nations learned anything from the Quran? Are they listening to Allah? Don't they fear Allah? Then they will suffer what Allah has in store for them - tsunami or sandstorm.

Japanese Earthquake

An earthquake occurred off Sendai in Honshu island, Japan at 2.46pm on Friday, 11 March 2011. The earthquake was recorded by seismic recording machines and recorded 8.9 on the Richter Scale (this is regarded as forceful).

Japanese Tsunami

The earthquake resulted in 10-metre high seawaves (tsunami) that lashed the entire city of Sendai. It washed out an entire valley, Sendai airport and surrounding farmlands. The electricity supply was disconnected, setting off meltdown of the nuclear reactors, one after the other - 3 reactors blew up due to excessive hydrogen gas build-up due to failure of the pump system that supplies cooled water to cool the nuclear reactor rods. The 4th reactor was alright.

Aftermath of the Japanese Quake & Tsunami

There was a lot of damages following the earthquake and associated tsunami. The forceful high waters had swept everything in the way. Shops , offices, schools and houses were wrecked, some were shifted, boats were all over the place, cars, vans, trucks, buses were all over the place - practically everything was disordered. More than 10,000 people died and more than 13,000 are lost to trace. This was the worst natural disaster (bala) in 140 years. The last disaster occurred in 1871 - what was it about?

Plenty of radioactive particles (10 million times normal levels) escaped into the air and the water systems around Sendai. These radioactive particles have entered the food chain and appear in fresh vegetables (spinach/sayur bayam) and fresh milk (susu segar) and other foodstuffs. The radioactivity level is four times that of normal levels. We know that radioactivity is dangerous to our health as it destroys active organs such as the thyroid - leads to thyroid cancer. The Japanese authorities have warned their public not to eat contaminated vegetables and not to feed contaminated milk to babies.

On 1 April 2011, radiation still cannot be brought under adequate control. The fourth reactor may not be able to hold any longer. It too cannot be properly controlled and the nuclear reactor rods might just overheat, resulting in a total meltdown. TEPCO needed more Yen to survive. The Japanese govt needs to inject public funds to help its power company. People are told to move away from the 80-km radius from the fourth nuclear reactor plant for their own safety. Malaysians are informed not to go to Japan unless for truly necessary matters. Beyond the radioactive shores, thousands of people are employed for an all-out search for survivors at sea, and also for victims in the sea, if any.

Many car users choose to "buang sampah di luar kereta", thinking that the roads are meant to be dirtied! That's not fair! We deserve to have clean roads. Some of the things car users throw out their car windows are polystyrene cups, tissues, cigarette butts etc.

Case: Silver BMW (WNK 9862) threw used cups outside their car and the family crossed the road to KFC.

Pak Tua could hardly make his trishaw move...he was struggling...

Pak Tua was riding his trishaw which was full of freshly cut grass. I just wondered how an old man (pak tua) could have that much energy when he should be resting at his age. I snapped this photo from my backseat... of course feeling ashamed that I was sitting comfortably while Pak Tua was struggling through wet weather. Poor Pak Tua, he must be bringing the grass home for his cows and goats? This photo was taken just as the rain had stopped, near the Kubang Kerian traffic lights.

Killers on Kelantan roads

You wouldn't believe that the ordinary Malaysian driver can become road killers when they get furious behind the wheel.

I had 3 terrifying experiences with these road killers.

Case 1:
An empty lorry from a quarry drove by us in Selising and almost pushed our car off the road! It didn't care what happened to us.

Case 2:

A silver old Proton Saga (PCC 1989) jumped queue and zoomed to the right side of our car at the Ketereh traffic lights, just beside the Ketereh Police Station. My husband pressed hard and long on the car horn to warn the driver of the wrongdoing and danger he created. A boy sitting in the front seat by the driver's side showed his '1 finger'.

A green Hyundai (JET 9788) zoomed past us and pushed our car to the roadside. It tried to push our car off the highway. It was dangerous!

What we should know and why things happened the way they did.

Egypt is the #1 seat of learning in the Arabic language
Malaysian students from Sekolah Menengah Agama (SMA) come from families who value their children's education, especially the Arabic medium of instruction
Because parents today have a choice wrt where to place their children (SMK or SMA), most parents try to push their children through SMK and the brighter parents prefer to channel their children through SMA
Most parents (like you and me) don't know that the SMA syllabus is much better and more down to earth than the syllabus at SMK
So the outcome of sending students to SMK is that SMK kids cannot compete with SMA kids who have very good psychological grounding and religious background
Without tact, we forge on with the SMK syllabus while the SMA syllabus gains international recognition
So, our SMA kids get to enter some of the most prestigious Arabic medium universities while our SMK kids wait to enter English medium universities in third world countries
Caring parents who would do everything they can to provide for their SMA kids. They suffer but yet are able to get their kids into Arabic universities, mainly in Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, thoughtless parents (like you and me) wait on the government to provide our SMK kids with scholarship so our kids can go to study overseas. The only problem is, our kids today can no longer go to first world universities but third world or communist countries. This is disheartening. When you have a bright daughter who wanted so much to study medicine in UK and she is sent to India, how do you feel inside, honestly?
So SMA kids go to Egypt and other countries, at their own expense (usually on a Pa-Ma scholarship) and they enjoy studying in Arabic at the universities of their choice
Now that the Egyptian crisis has begun since 25 January 2011, who will help our majority SMA kids who are on their Pa-Ma $$$? Of course, it is not the government's duty. But why did the government decide to help after all, after a considerably long delay (lag time) before aid and instant food are brought to Egypt?

On what grounds did our government act to bring the SMA kids home to safety? Were the evacuations really necessary after all? Did we bring them back against their parents' consent, knowing that the students are mainly on Pa-Ma $$? Who decides on these matters in times such as this Egyptian crisis? Should things of this nature occur again in future, will we react and evacuate after 1 week or should be choose to ignore all early warning signs?
Bringing students back at a cost borne by the government, where will our government obtain $$$ to replace what it has used? Where can we siphon $$$ to repay contingency evacuation plans? Will we need to reimburse (bayar balik) all those who have helped us? MAS, AirAsia, etc... at whose cost?
How sure are we that these claims are genuine and not going overboard (tuntutan berlebihan)?

Egypt is divided for administrative purposes into 29 'governorates (محافظة muḥāfaẓa, plural Arabic: محافظات‎ muḥāfaẓāt). Egyptian governorates are the top tier of the five-tier jurisdiction hierarchy. A governorate is administered by a governor, who is appointed by the President of Egypt and serves at the president's pleasure. Most governorates have a population density of more than one-thousand per km², while the 3 largest have a population density of less than two per km².

Governorates are either fully "urban" or else they are an admixture of "urban" and "rural". The official distinction between "urban" and "rural" is reflected in the lower tiers: i.e., fully urban governorates have no regions (markaz), as the markaz is, natively, a conglomeration of villages. If you don't know TM, it is high time not to get to know it.

Malaysians need something better than TM.

This was what happened...

Our Internet connection has been down for 3 consecutive days since 13 January 2011. My husband and I decided to lodge a complain at the TM office in KB. We arrived at TM KB round about noon. Instead, the TM staff said "Go home" and call from home! Frustrated and disappointed, we went home and I stayed on the phone and bugged TM from 1 pm to 3 pm to see how TM can respond to a broken Internet line. Very poor! Even with its line-up of trained technicians, I am far better. And I mended my own broken Internet link around midnight.

It seems that when there is ISO, everybody follows that and nobody dares to speak to the customer direct when the customer walks in. I think TM has the best false marketing and the worst customer relations.

Perkara ini termasuk juga pendatang tanpa izin dari luar negara yang meminta bantuan untuk buat masjid, sekolah dan sebagainya. Dokumen yang mereka bawa adalah salinan yang telah lama dan tiada pengesahan khas oleh majlis agama Islam atau pihak berkuasa lainnya.

Sir Gerald Templer

Field Marshal Sir Gerald Walter Robert Templer KG, GCB, GCMG, KBE (11 September 1898–25 October 1979) was a British military commander. He is best known for his defeat of the guerrilla rebels in Malaya between 1952 and 1954. "The jungle has been neutralised", he declared in a Time Magazine cover article in 1952.

Templer was a hands-on manager and was famous for flying to trouble spots. Sometimes his chastising of the villagers had humorous consequences. Noel Barber mentions such a case after a guerrilla ambush caused Templer to immediately fly to the nearest village where he harangued the collected inhabitants:
"You're a bunch of bastards," shouted Templer; and Rice, who spoke Chinese, listened carefully as the translator announced without emotion: "His Excellency informs you that he knows that none of your mothers and fathers were married when you were born."
Templer waited, then, pointing a finger at the astonished villagers to show them who was the "Tuan," added "You may be bastards, but you'll find out that I can be a bigger one." Missing the point of the threat completely, the translator said politely, "His Excellency does admit, however, that his father was also not married to his mother."
Templer is praised by Dr. Klev I. Sepp in 'Best Practices in Counterinsurgency,' Military Review, May-June 2005.
During the 1950s Malaya Emergency, British High Commissioner Sir Gerald Templer a declared antiracist strived for political and social equality of all Malays. He granted Malay citizenship en masse to over a million Indians and Chinese; required Britons to register as Malay citizens, elevated the public role of women; constructed schools, clinics, and police stations; electrified rural villages; continued a 700% increase in the number of police and military troops; and gave arms to militia guards to protect their own community. In this environment, insurgent terrorism only drove people further from the rebels and closer to the government.
Sunderland points out how Templer brought everyone into the fold: Templer took office in February 1952. On midnight, 14 September, 1,100,000 Chinese and 2,630,000 Malayans became what were called "federal citizens."

Honours

The University of Birmingham Centre for First World War Studies established the Templer Medal in 1982 to commemorate the life and achievements of Gerald Templer and to mark his Presidency of the Society for Army Historical Research between 1965 and 1979.

The Malaysian Government conferred him the award that brings the Title "Tun"

The Main Hall at Maktab Tentera DiRaja (Royal Military College) in Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur is named Dewan Tun Templer (Tun Templer Hall).

A road in Petaling Jaya of Malaysia is named Jalan Templer (Templer Road).

Mubin Sheppard (1905-1994)

Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Hj. Abdul Mubin (Mervyn) Cecil ffranck Sheppard (M.C.ff. Sheppard), PSM, JMN, PPT, CMG, MBE, OStJ, ED (died 11 September 1994) was a historian of Malaysian culture and heritage.

Tan Sri Mubin Sheppard was born in Ireland in 1905. In 1927 he sat for the Malayan Civil Service (MCS) Competitive Examination in London, and arrived in Malaya in 1928 to serve with the MCS till 1963.

He served as a Company Commander in the Federated Malay States Volunteer Force (FMSVF) from 1941-1942. During the Second World War (1942-1945) he became a Prisoner of War (POW). He retired as a Major in the FMSVF in 1945.

The Mubin Sheppard Memorial Prize was established to stimulate students awareness of Malaysia's cultural heritage.

Semua ikan berbeza dari segi luaran tetapi terkenal dengan keupayaan untuk mengesan dan memakan sel dan kulit mati pada tubuh manusia. Aktiviti memakan sel dan kulit mati meninggalkan kulit yang lembut dan segar.

Sedang ikan-ikan ini mengerumuni dan memakan sel dan kulit mati, manusia akan merasakannya seperti diurut kaki. Urutan kecil oleh ikan-ikan ini (micro-massage) boleh disamakan sebagai terkena kejutan letrik skala kecil yang tidak membayakan. Ia bertujuan untuk melancarkan peredaran darah dan mengaktifkan hujung-hujung saraf (nerve endings) yang terdapat di bahagian kaki.

Semasa menjalani rawatan ikan spa ini, manusia akan turut merasa geli dan tertawa. Ketawa ialah sebahagian kesan sampingan yang positif terhadap rawatan tubuh manusia.

Rawatan spa ikan boleh dilakukan pada bila-bila masa dan tidak terikat dengan masa makan. Ia boleh dilakukan sebelum atau selepas makan.

Spiritual dances to daze the minds...

We all know the gamelan music and its stunning loud gong sounds from its varied bronze gong ensemble. If I asked you "Do you know whether this dance music is Buddhist, Hindu or Islam?" what would your response be? Of course, the gamelan is Buddhist-Hindu dance music to accompany the Buddhist-Hindu temple ritual, when they are to cremate/bury their dead. It is similar to the Malay Makyong, a spiritual dance ritual which the clergy Muslims today regard as unIslamic, and for which the Makyong performance has been banned in Kelantan, a Muslim state and territory (Darul Naim) in our beloved multiracial tiny country.

Doa Akhir Tahun dibaca 3 kali pada akhir waktu Asar atau sebelum masuk waktu Maghrib pada akhir bulan Zulhijjah.

Sesiapa yang membaca doa ini, Syaitan berkata “Kesusahan bagiku dan sia-sia lah pekerjaanku menggoda anak Adam pada setahun ini dan Allah binasakan aku satu saat jua. Dengan sebab membaca doa ini, Allah ampunkan dosanya setahun”.

Doa Awal Tahun dibaca 3 kali selepas maghrib pada malam satu Muharram. Sesiapa yang membaca doa ini, Syaitan berkata “Telah amanlah anak Adam ini daripada godaan pada tahun ini kerana Allah telah mewakilkan dua Malaikat memeliharanya daripada fitnah Syaitan”.

“Biasalah tu.”

Mungkin perbualan ini pernah kita lalui dalam kehidupan kita. Ya, biasa. Situasi-situasi yang dinyatakan, termasuklah 1001 lagi situasi yang tidak dinyatakan, boleh dijawab dengan satu jawapan yang sama - biasalah tu.

Mengiktiraf jahiliyyah

Apabila kita melihat bahawa jahiliyyah adalah biasa, satu norma masyarakat yang pada kita memang telah berakar umbi lantas kita tidak merasakannya ‘luar biasa’, maka hakikatnya hati kita telah mengiktiraf jahiliyyah yang wujud di sekeliling kita.

Biasa. Kita rasa itu biasa. Maka, ada masalahkah? Bukankah benda itu biasa sahaja?

Seperti kita lihat orang berjalan pakai kaki. Adakah kita akan menegurnya: “Eh, kenapa jalan pakai kaki?”

Pastinya tidak bukan? Kita tidak akan menegurnya. Bahkan, kita tidak akan tergerak pun, terlintas pun dalam hati kita untuk menegurnya. Kerana apa? Kerana itu adalah biasa. Lainlah kalau dia berjalan dengan tangan. Barulah kita akan risau dengannya, dan menegur: “Kenapa buat macam ini? Jalan pakai kakilah.”

Begitulah hakikatnya apabila kita melihat jahiliyyah satu perkara yang biasa.

Hati jadi mangli dengan jahiliyyah, lantas lembik terhadapnya, akhirnya membiarkannya sahaja bergerak bebas tanpa menghalangnya.

Jahiliyyah menyelimuti kita.

Tanpa sedar juga, kita secara tidak langsung redha dengan jahiliyyah. Kita mampu menerima jahiliyyah itu hidup beriringan dengan kita. Walaupun kita kelihatan masih berpegang pada jalan yang haq, namun keredhaan pada jahiliyyah telah wujud di dalam jiwa. Dua cinta yang tidak boleh bersatu dalam satu waktu adalah cinta kepada Allah, dan cinta kepada jahiliyyah. Sekiranya kita tidak memerangi jahiliyyah, maka jahiliyyah akan memerangi kita.

Lama kelamaan, jahiliyyah yang kita biarkan tadi, yang kita anggap biasa tadi, meluas dan merebak. Oleh kerana kita nampak jahiliyyah itu biasa, nanti kita akan ambil sedikit jahiliyyah masuk dalam diri kita. Jahiliyyah yang kita rasa ‘biasa’. Dan lama kelamaan, banyak lagi jahiliyyah lain pun kita pandang ‘biasa’. Dan akhir sekali, kita terserap ke dalamnya. Pada ketika itu, jadilah jahiliyyah itu biasa, dan kebaikan itu yang luar biasa.

Dan perkara ini, kita boleh lihat dalam kehidupan kita.

Ya. Siapakah yang dipandang luar biasa sekarang?

Kebaikan, atau Jahiliyyah?

Jahiliyyah tidak pernah ‘biasa’

Apakah biasa, normal untuk manusia yang sebenarnya?

Islam. Taat pada Allah.. Fitrah kita adalah Islam. Kita semenjak azali memang telah mengangkat Allah sebagai ILAH dan RABB. Itulah yang biasa. Itulah normal.

Maka apabila ada ism lain selain itu, yakni jahiliyyah, datang, tidakkah sepatutnya kita memandang dengan pandangan: “Apakah ini?”

Sebab jahiliyyah adalah luar biasa untuk kita. Pelik. Bagaimana benda itu boleh hidup bersama aku? Eh, kenapa aku boleh biarkan benda ini tersebar begini? Apa aku dah buat untuk sekat dan hapuskan benda ini dalam hidup aku dan masyarakat?

Persoalan itu patut keluar pada diri kita. Sekiranya kita adalah yang tidak menganggap jahiliyyah sebagai satu kebiasaan.

Penutup: Akan tersingkap selimut kekeliruan ini, pada hari itu.

Nanti, ada satu hari yang kita sama-sama akan lihat bahawa kekeliruan yang menyebabkan jahiliyyah nampak normal pada kita hari ini, tersingkap.

Hari akhirat. Hari yang mata-mata manusia lalai tersembul keluar kerana melihat hakikat. Hari yang bicara-bicara pemalas dan yang tidak mahu percaya terkunci kerana kelu dan ketakutan melihat kebenaran. Hari yang kala itu ramai berkata:

” Wahai Tuhan kami, kami telah melihat dan mendengar dengan sejelas-jelasnya (akan segala yang kami ingkari dahulu); maka kembalikanlah kami ke dunia supaya kami mengerjakan amal-amal yang baik; sesungguhnya kami sekarang telah yakin.” Surah As-Sajdah ayat 12.

“Maka alangkah baiknya kalau kami dapat ke dunia sekali lagi, supaya kami menjadi dari orang-orang yang beriman.” Surah Asy-Syuara ayat 102.

Hari itu, kita akan lihat apakah yang sepatutnya kita anggap biasa, apakah yang sepatutnya kita anggap luar biasa.

Maka apakah kita hanya akan tersedar daripada hal ini ketika itu?

'A NEW mobile phone gadget has raised fears it will be a perverts' dream. The £100 add-on will turn camera phones into X-ray specs which can see through clothes.

It is said to be particularly effective on dark bikinis. Originally designed for taking pictures at night, it has quickly been exploited by voyeurs.

Made by Japanese company Yamada Denshi, it can be bought on the internet and fitted to high-end phones. Night-filters are the latest device used by Japan's obsessive voyeur community.

Kelahiran, keluarga & kematian Cheng Ho:

1. Lahir pada 1371 Masehi (bersamaan tahun Hong Wu ke 4) di Kampung He Dai sebuah desa di daerah Kunyang (60km south of Kunming), wilayah Yunan (province), bahagian Barat Daya China (located in south-west China. When Cheng Ho was born, most of China was under the Ming Dynasty except the region where he was born, which was still under the weakened & fragmented Mongol rule.
2. Anak ketiga daripada 6 adik-beradik (Ann Wan Seng 2010: page 45 says second child but page 58 says third child). He was not Chinese but of Mongol heritage, of many generations of Muslims. He was of fair complexion and good looking. That was why he was captured and taken away at age 11 (other reports say age 12).
3. Ayahnya bernama Haji Mansour / Mansour Hadzi / Ma Haadzi / Ma Ha generasi ke-6 Muslim Mongol berketurunan etnik Hui yang beragama Islam. His father's family is the 6th generation of Mongol people who migrated to Yunan circa 1274. They were a respectable family as they were pious and steadfastly held to Islamic teachings. His father and grandparents had performed the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah.
4. Keluarganya bernama Ma daripada suku Hui yang beragama Islam, Hui is not a Chinese ethnic group but Mongolian, they have mixed features. They lived in an area ruled by the then residual Mongol empire, today is located in south-west China. (Setia Budhi wrote in Laksamana Haji Muhammad Cheng Ho 2010: page 83 that Hui is Chinese-Arab. Cheng Ho is the 6th generation from Sayed Ajall Omar Samsuddin, the Governor of Yunan during Yuan Dynasty.)
5. Zhu Di was the Ming Emperor. The Ming army conquered Yunan Province in 1381/2 (other page said 1395; Ann Wang Seng 2010: page 45 says in 1381, page 58 says 1382) and captured the young Muslim boys, including Cheng Ho and castrated (dikasi in Malay) them. Castration (potong buang buah zakar) will cause a boy to grow big and strong .
6. After castration, the young Muslim boys became slaves and at age 17 joined the Ming army and fought with them. Cheng Ho's bravery as a young warrior was most noticeable. By age 17-24, he had helped capture 40,000 enemies for the Ming army.
7. The young Muslim warriors were then brought to the Imperial Ming Court as eunuchs (sida in Malay). Cheng Ho became big and macho with a good voice. As a Muslim he was honest and very brave.
8. He was highly respected among the eunuchs and appointed as private body guard of the Ming Emperor.
9. When the Portuguese, Dutch and British ruled Malaya & SEA, they forbid the Chinese to become Muslims and attend mosques erected by Cheng Ho and his largely Muslim crew. Instead the Chinese people had resorted to converting their mosques into to'kong (temples) and worshipped Cheng Ho. These to'kong are called Sam Po Kong (Brother Sam Po temple). Thus, Cheng Ho was worshipped as a 'god' by certain people at many seaports where his treasure ship had docked.

13. An empty tomb was constructed in China to bury his clothes and shoes. It does not contain his remains (tiada jasad).
14. His tomb was discovered in 1912 by the government of the Republic of China

1. Ma San Bao / Man Sanpoa / Ma San Pao (nama asal). Dalam dialek Fujian disebut San Po. Ma He / Ma Ho ialah namanya sewaktu kecil. (Ma was the family surname)
2. Cheng/Zheng was a given surname by the Ming Emperor Yong Lu circa 1404. Cheng Ho was his new name for his loyalty, bravery, wisdom and skillful management. He became known as Cheng Ho or Zheng He, a highly respected and well-known figure in the imperial Ming court. He was appointed a war admiral. He was an admiral for 30 years for three emperors - Cheng Tzu (reign 1403-1424), Jen Tsung (reign 1425), and Hsuang Tsung (reign 1426-1435).

Yuan Dynasty (Mongol)

Say Dian Chih (Sayid Umar Samsudin) was a Mongol governor in Yunan. He was a kind man. The people of Yunan had sympathised with the weak Mongol government which lost the revolution against the Ming army. The Yunan people were united and revolted against the Ming Dynasty but the Ming army was stronger and defeated the Yunan army. Many Yunan people were captured including Ma Ho (Cheng Ho).

Ming Dynasty (Chinese; 1368-1648)

1. Panglima Chu Yuan Chang berjaya menawan Nanking dan wilayah bahagian selatan Sungai Yang Tze Kiang.
2. Panglima Chu Yuan Chang maju ke utara dan menawan Peking (now Beijing).
3. Dinasti Ming ditubuhkan pada 1368
4. Panglima Chu Yuan Chang menjadi maharaja China Dinasti Ming dengan panggilan rasmi Hung Wu. Sejarah mengenalinya sebagai Maharaja Chu Yuan Chang atau Maharaja Chu (Emperor Chu Hung Wu / Chu Hong Wu, reigned 1368-1398. Ann Wan Seng 2010:72-73). His queen (Ratu) was a Muslim named Puteri Ma. Emperor Chu Yuan Chang's speech which was inscribed in the main mosque in Nanking acknowledged Islam and the Quran.

6. Teenager Ma Ho was placed under the charge of Chen Chu, the 4th prince of Emperor Chu.
7. Under Chen Chu, Ma Ho had his name changed to Cheng Ho.

9. Cheng Ho also went to attack Karakorum settlement.
10. Chen Chu was pleased with Cheng Ho's aptitude and bravery.
11. Emperor Chu Hong Wu's eldest son died and the emperor chose his grandson Chu Kiem Wen as his successor to the throne.
12. Emperor Chu Hong Wu passed away and was succeeded by his grandson, Chu Kiem Wen aged 16.
13. After 5 years Chu Kiem Wen was emperor, Prince Chen Chu overthrew him and became emperor. Chu Kiem Wen fled to the Arabian peninsula.
14. Prince Chen Chu became Emperor Yung Lo / Yong Le / Yong Lu (reigned 1403-1424). Yong Lu supported Islamic dakwah. The marriage of Princess Hang Li Po to the Malacca Sultan was an effective form of dakwah.
15. Mohamad Cheng Ho/ Laksamana Cheng Ho/ Admiral Cheng Ho began building his armada.
16. He gathered 27,550 men/crew/perwira for his first voyage, including language experts (penterjemah), astronomers (pengkaji bintang), geographers (ahli geografi), doctors (ahli perubatan), cartographers (pembuat peta), chronicler (jurutulis), etc.
17. Emperor Jen Tsung succeeded Emperor Yong Lu. He stopped overseas voyages and assigned Cheng Ho to Nanking, to build a memorial for the deceased queen.
18. Emperor Hsuen The (reign 1425-1436M) succeeded Emperor Jen Tsung.
19. Emperor Hsuen The commanded Cheng Ho to commence overseas voyage for diplomatic ties.
20. Monuments and to'kongs were set up everywhere that Cheng Ho visited.
21. Emperor Cheng Teh (reign 1449-1457M) wrote a sajak about god.
22. Emperor Ming Cheng (reign 1506-1522M) once wrote favourably about Islam. He wrote that the teachings of Konghucu (Confucius) is not godly, and Bhuddhism and Taoism are limited about godliness. He wrote Buddha cannot be worshipped as he was human.

Records of Cheng Ho & his voyages:

Cheng Ho began his world voyages at age 35 in 1405. In China, there was rising jealousy over Cheng Ho's magnificent achievements and many records of Cheng Ho's voyages were destroyed by burning them. This was done to erase all things known of the great Muslim voyager. However, many records written by two scribes and others who sailed with him have survived in China. Other records outside China have also survived.

1. Ma Huan - a Hui chronicler and translator who accompanied Cheng Ho on his voyages. Fasih berbahasa Arab dan Parsi. Bertindak sebagai juru bahasa. Wrote Ying Yien Cheng Lan.
2. Fei Shin / Fei Hsin / Fei Xin / Faisal - a scholar & chronicler who served as a low ranking officer on Cheng Ho's voyage. Wrote Hsin Cha Sheng Lan.
3. Guo Chongli / Ghazali? - bertugas sebagai penterjemah. Fasih berbahasa Arab dan Parsi.
4. Ha san / Hassan - drp etnik Hui. Pemimpin Masjid Tang Shi di Xian, wilayah Shan Xi berperanan mengeratkan hubungan China dengan negara Islam, memimpin kegiatan agama seperti pengkebumian jenazah dan solat hajat. Bertindak sebagai juru bahasa.

Cheng Ho's voyages:

Cheng Ho's voyages took him to three continents - Asia, Middle East and Africa.He had visited 530 seaports & cities in 30 countries between 1405 and 1433/5, a span of 28/30 years.

1. First voyage 1405-1407 M (>2 tahun)
Cheng Ho memulakan pelayaran pertama dari Pintu Masuk Lima Harimau dekat Foo Chow pada 15 Jun 1405 dan kembali pada 2 September 1407. Pelayaran ini memakan masa selama 2 tahun 3 bulan.
2. Second voyage 1407-1411 M (4 tahun)
3. Third voyage 1413-1415 (2 tahun) / 1409?
4. Fourth voyage 1412
5. Fifth voyage 1417 / 1416?
6. Sixth voyage 1421-1422 (1 tahun)
7. Seventh (last) voyage 1431-1433 (2 tahun) - Cheng died at sea and was buried at sea. 1424?

Cheng Ho in Malacca:

1. Cheng Ho reached Malacca four times (Setia Budhi: in 1408, on his second voyage in 1409, in 1412 and 1413; Ann Wan Seng: his last voyage on 8 July1431). Setia Budhi: There were 20 visits to China between 1404 and 1435.
2. Cheng Ho's crew was sited at Bukit China.
3. Cheng Ho then went to see Raja Melaka, Parameswara who was Hindu.
4. Cheng Ho handed over gifts from the Ming Emperor to Parameswara which included gold, money, silk, porcelain jars (tembikar), and yellow umbrellas (payung kuning).
5. At this time, the Malacca government had to pay an annual tribute in the form of 40 gold leaves (ufti sebanyak 40 daun emas) to the Siamese government (Muangthai).
6. The Ming Dynasty records that Cheng Ho had sent his agent to carry a letter to the Siamese government to request the Siamese government to end the annual tribute.
7. The Raja Siam had kindly accepted the letter and ended the annual attribute due from Malacca.
8. Cheng Ho then announced that the Malacca government under Parameswara was a free government and sovereign and no longer needed to pay tribute to Siam.
9. Cheng Ho had made inscriptions of this announcement on a large stone placed outside Malacca city. This stone has gone missing since the Portuguese attacked Malacca in 1511.

Charitable activities by Cheng Ho:

2. 1430 - memperbaiki Masjid San San di Nanjing yang rosak akibat terbakar

This is a powerful message in our modern society. We seemed to have lost our bearing & our sense of direction.

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company.

He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision.

The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.

The director asked, "Did you obtain any scholarships in school?" the youth answered "none".

The director asked, " Was it your father who paid for your school fees?" The youth answered, "My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees.

The director asked, " Where did your mother work?" The youth answered, "My mother worked as clothes cleaner. The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.

The director asked, " Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?" The youth answered, "Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me.

The director said, "I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother's hands, and then see me tomorrow morning.

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid.

The youth cleaned his mother's hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother's hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother's hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future.

After finishing the cleaning of his mother hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.

That night, mother and son talked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the director's office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth's eyes, asked: " Can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?"

The youth answered, " I cleaned my mother's hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes'

The Director asked, " please tell me your feelings."

The youth said, Number 1, I know now what is appreciation. Without my mother, there would not the successful me today. Number 2, by working together and helping my mother, only I now realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done. Number 3, I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationship.

The director said, " This is what I am looking for to be my manager.
I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired.

Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company's performance improved tremendously.

A child, who has been protected and habitually given whatever he wanted, would develop "entitlement mentality" and would always put himself first. He would be ignorant of his parent's efforts. When he starts work, he assumes that every person must listen to him, and when he becomes a manager, he would never know the sufferings of his employees and would always blame others. For this kind of people, who may be good academically, may be successful for a while, but eventually would not feel sense of achievement. He will grumble and be full of hatred and fight for more. If we are this kind of protective parents, are we really showing love or are we destroying the kid instead?

You can let your kid live in a big house, eat a good meal, learn piano, watch a big screen TV. But when you are cutting grass, please let them experience it. After a meal, let them wash their plates and bowls together with their brothers and sisters. It is not because you do not have money to hire a maid, but it is because you want to love them in a right way. You want them to understand, no matter how rich their parents are, one day their hair will grow gray, same as the mother of that young person. The most important thing is your kid learns how to appreciate the effort and experience the difficulty and learns the ability to work with others to get things done.

Ini sebuah kisah yang bisa mengundang air mata siapa sahaja yang membacanya. Kisah ini saya dapat dari seorang rakan melalui e-mail. Setiap kali membaca kisah nie mesti bergenang air mata. Walaupun manusia memang sering melakukan kesilapan...mungkin ada kesilapan yang dilakukan boleh dimaafkan atau diperbetulkan semula...dan mungkin juga ada kesilapan yang dilakukan bakal mengundang kekesalan yang tidak berpenghujung. Kerana itu Allah telah memberi akal kepada setiap manusia supaya boleh menilai, menimbang dan berfikir sebaik-baiknya dalam melakukan sesuatu samada baik atau sebaliknya...terlajak perahu boleh diundur...terlajak perbuatan...sesal selamanya...

Kisah Si Kecil Ita...

Suatu hari dia terjumpa sebatang paku karat. Dia pun melakar simen tempat letak kereta ayahnya tetapi kerana diperbuat daripada marmar,lakaran tidak kelihatan. Dicubanya pada kereta baru ayahnya. Ya....kerana kereta itu bewarna gelap, lakarannya jelas. Apa lagi kanak-kanak ini pun melakarlah melahirkan kreativitinya. Hari itu bapa dan ibunya bermotosikal ke tempat kerja kerana laluannya sesak sempena perayaan Thaipusam.

Penuh sebelah kanan dia beredar ke sebelah kiri kereta. Dilakarnya gambar ibu dan ayahnya, gambarnya sendiri, lukisan ayam, kucing dan sebagainya mengikut imaginasinya. Kejadian itu langsung tak disedari si pembantu rumah.

Pulang petang itu, terkejut besar pasangan itu melihat kereta yang baru setahun dibeli dengan bayaran ansuran yang belum habis berbayar, berbatik-batik.

Si bapa yang belum pun masuk ke rumah terus menjerit, 'Siapa punya kerja ni?' Pembantu rumah yang tersentak dengan jeritan itu berlari keluar. Dia juga beristighfar. .Mukanya merah padam ketakutan tambah-tambah melihat wajah bengis tuannya.

Sekali lagi diajukan pertanyaan keras kepadanya, dia terus mengatakan 'Tak tahu... !''Saya tak tahu Tuan..!

''Duduk di rumah sepanjang hari tak tahu, apa kau buat?' herdik siisteri lagi.

Bila anak yang mendengar suara ayahnya, tiba-tiba berlari keluar dari bilik. Dengan penuh manja dia berkata 'Ita buat ayahhh.. cantik kan !' katanya menerkam ayahnya ingin bermanja seperti selalu.

Dengan kasih murni seorang anak yang belum memahami apa-apa, menarik lembut poket seluar abahnya, manja.

Si ayah yang hilang sabar merentap ranting kecil pokok bunga raya didepannya, terus dipukul bertalu-talu tapak tangan anaknya. Si anak yang tak mengerti apa-apa terlolong-lolong kesakitan sekaligus ketakutan.

Puas memukul tapak tangan, si ayah memukul pula belakang tangan anaknya. Si ibu cuma mendiamkan diri, mungkin setuju dan berasa puas dengan hukuman yang dikenakan.Pembantu rumah melopong, tak tahu nak buat apa-apa, sungguh kesian dan teramat sedih, namun dia sangat takut .

Si bapa cukup rakus memukul-mukul tangan kanan dan kemudian tangan kiri anaknya. Selepas merasa puas, si bapa masuk ke rumah dituruti si ibu. Pembantu rumah segera memeluk dengan penuh sayang dan duka, cepat-cepat menggendong anak kecil itu, membawanya ke bilik.

Dilihatnya tapak tangan dan belakang tangan si anak kecil calar balar.Menangis teresak-esak keduanya, dalam bilik.Pembantu rumah memandikan anak kecil itu. Sambil menyiram air sambil dia menangis. Anak kecil itu pula terjerit-jerit menahan kepedihan sebaik calar-balar itu terkena air.

Si pembantu rumah kemudian menidurkan anak kecil itu. Si bapa sengaja membiarkan anak itu tidur bersama pembantu rumah.

Keesokkan harinya, kedua-dua belah tangan si anakbengkak. Pembantu rumah mengadu. 'Sapukan minyak gamat tu!' balas tuannya, bapa si anak.

Pulang dari kerja, dia tidak melayan anak kecil itu yang menghabiskan masa di bilik pembantu. Si bapa konon mahu mengajar anaknya.

Tiga hari berlalu, si ayah langsung tidak menjenguk anaknya sementara si ibu juga begitu tetapi setiap hari bertanya kepada pembantu rumah. 'Ita demam... ' jawap pembantunya ringkas. 'Bagi minum panadol tu,' balas si ibu.

Sebelum si ibu masuk bilik tidur dia menjenguk bilik pembantunya. Apabila dilihat anaknya ita dalam pelukan pembantu rumah, dia menutup semula pintu.

Masuk hari keempat, pembantu rumah memberitahu tuannya bahawa suhu badan Ita terlalu panas. 'Petang nanti kita bawa ke klinik. Pukul 5.00 siap' kata majikannya itu.

Sampai waktunya si anak yang longlai dibawa ke klinik. Doktor mengarahnya ia dirujuk ke hospital kerana keadaannya serius. Setelah seminggu di wad pediatrik doktor memanggil bapa dan ibu kanak-kanak itu.

'Tiada pilihan..' katanya yang mencadangkan agar kedua-dua tangan kanak-kanak itu dipotong kerana jangkitan yang sudah menjadi gangren sudah terlalu teruk.

'Ia sudah bernanah, demi nyawanya tangan perlu dipotong dari siku ke bawah' kata doktor. Si bapa dan ibu bagaikan terkena halilintar mendengar kata-kata itu. Terasa dirinya tunggang terbalik, tapi apalah dapat dikatakan.

Si ibu meraung merangkul si anak. Dengan berat hati dan lelehan air mata isterinya, si bapa terketar-ketar menandatangani surat kebenaran pembedahan.

Keluar dari bilik pembedahan, selepas ubat bius yang dikenakanhabis, si anak menangis kesakitan. Dia juga terpinga-pinga, melihatkedua- dua tangannya berbalut putih.

Direnung muka ayah dan ibunya. Kemudian ke wajah pembantu rumah.Dia mengerutkan dahi melihat mereka semua menangis. Dalam seksaan menahan sakit, si anak yang keletah bersuara dalam linangan air mata...

'Abah.. Mama... Ita tak buat lagi. Ita tak mau ayah pukul. Ita tak mau jahat. Ita sayang abah.. sayang mama.' katanya berulang kali membuatkan si ibu gagal menahan rasa.

'Ita juga sayang Kak Narti..' katanya memandang wajah pembantu rumah, sekaligus membuatkan gadis dari Surabaya itu meraung seperti histeria.

Tidak seorang pun yang melihat suasana itu tidak menangis.... 'Abah.. bagilah balik tangan Ita. Buat apa ambil.. Ita janji tak buat lagi! Ita nak makan, macam mana? Nak main macam mana? Ita janji tak conteng kereta lagi,' katanya bertalu-talu.

Bagaikan gugur jantung si ibu mendengar kata-kata anaknya. Meraunglah dia sekuat hati namun takdir yang sudah terjadi, tiada manusia dapat menahannya..

"Didiklah dan pukullah anak anda dengan penuh kasih sayang, bukan untuk lepaskan geram & marah anda...."

Lelaki yg normal dan berkemampuan...wajib kahwin. begitu juga dengan perempuan.

Tetapi ada sesetengah lelaki/wanita...mereka ini memilih tak mahu kawin..mesti ada sebab tertentu....

Dan ada yg bersekedudukan hingga ada 2 3 anak..tetapi mereka tidak nikah. Mereka borong semua halal belaka. Mereka meniru budaya Barat dengan amalkan gaya hidup bebas...

Sesetengah mereka pula..tak mahu pikul tanggungjawab, bila sudah berkahwin...

Kahwin dilihat banyak timbulkan masalah, menyebabkan ada wanita yang rela tidak berkahwin.

Dalam hidup ini, kita tidak boleh menggunakan akal semata-mata. Perkahwinan itu sunnah Rasulullah s.a.w. dan Rasulullah bersabda, ‘Siapa yang tidak mengikut sunnahku, bukanlah ia dari golonganku.’ Dengan mengikut sunnah Rasulullah dalam berumah tangga, ia akan melahirkan ketenangan. Kita jangan tengok secara negatif, kita kena tengok yang positif. Bukanlah perkahwinan itu yang menyebabkan masalah tapi cara melaksanakannya.

Sebenarnya tak kahwin itu menyebabkan tidak tenang. Kalau Allah kata dengan berkahwin dapat ketenangan, Allah akan beri. Apa yang wanita selalu takut bila hendak kahwin? Takut risiko tidak dapat suami yang baik. Sebenarnya itu risiko kedua. Risiko pertama, celik mata saja kita tidak dapat berhubung, tidak dapat mengingati Allah.

Bila kita berhubung dengan Allah sepanjang masa, hati kita dipegang oleh hidayah Allah. Jadi, apa saja yang kita buat akan jadi amal soleh. Lalu Allah akan beri kehidupan yang baik (termasuk kehidupan berumah tangga).Kalau tak berhubung dengan Allah, syaitan akan berhubung dengan kita. Itu risiko kehidupan yang pertama.

Bila tak dapat buat amal soleh, datang risiko kedua – musibah. Atau Allah datangkan istidraj… kadang-kadang Allah beri badan yang sihat, harta yang banyak, diberi rezeki secara fizikal tapi tidak dapat rezeki dalam bentuk ketenangan. Ketenangan akan jatuh pada hati orang yang yakin pada Allah. Ini formula yang tak boleh dilanggar.

Ada wanita yang belum kahwin-kahwin sebab “Belum ada jodoh” atau “Susah nak cari calon, maklumlah kita ni orang perempuan.”

Soalnya, macam mana usaha yang dibuat untuk dapat jodoh itu?

Usaha ada dua aspek. Usaha nombor satu, hablumminallah. Kita baik dengan Allah dulu. Kenal pasti apa yang Allah suka. Lepas menyerahkan diri dengan Allah iaitu mengucap dua kalimah syahadah, kita dirikan solat. Solat biar yang betul-betul diterima Allah.

Betul rukun fi’li, rukun qauli dan rukun qalbinya. Kalau hendak tahu sama ada Allah terima atau tidak solat kita, lihat tindak-tanduk kita. Kita pun boleh rasa solat kita lalai atau tidak. Bila kita baik dengan Allah, kita minta pun dengan Allah. Allah taala akan pandu dalam usaha kita. Allah beri panduan. Allah tidak akan menganiayai kita. “Sesungguhnya Allah tidak menganiaya kamu tetapi kamulah yang menganiaya dirimu sendiri,” maksud firman Allah.

Jadi usaha mesti dengan Allah dulu. Barulah kita boleh lakukan perubahan dalam hidup kita. Kita kena muhasabah. Kalau berlaku sesuatu pada diri kita, semak dulu macam mana diri kita dengan Allah.Dalam membuat keputusan, kita susah hendak nilai. Kita terlalu lemah. Kadang-kadang kita ikut luaran saja, sebab itu tersalah pilih pasangan.

Dalam soal ini, Allah kata, ‘Kau perlukan Aku’. Buatlah istikharah supaya dapat calon pilihan yang terbaik, yang boleh melahirkan kehidupan dan zuriat yang baik.

Ada wanita yang rasa rendah diri dan putus asa untuk kahwin sebab pernah dianiaya. “Dulu orang buat saya, orang sihir saya,” luahnya.

Kita jangan risau sangat apa yang orang hendak kenakan pada kita. Kalau kita baik dengan Allah, Allah tidak akan aniaya kita. Sebab itu asas tauhid sangat penting. Asas tauhid adalah asas untuk kenal siapa Allah – Yang Maha Perkasa, Yang Maha Kaya… segala perbendaraan berada di tangan-Nya.

Maknanya, segala jodoh yang baik ada di tangan Allah. Allah juga maha pemurah. Jadi kalau kita ‘kawan’ baik dengan Allah, apa yang kita hendak bimbangkan? Sebab Yang Paling Kuat ada di sisi kita. Kita tak perlu takut dan bimbang. Mintalah supaya Allah pandu kita. Allah hanya akan memandu orang yang beriman.

Bila hendak pilih jodoh, kita perlu merisik. Apa yang hendak dirisik?

Perkara pertama untuk kenal calon pasangan, selidik solatnya. Macam mana solatnya. Kemudian risik sama ada mengaji Quran atau tidak, dan lain-lain perkara asas.

Bagaimana kalau dia jaga solat tapi akhlaknya kurang atau dia buat perkara-perkara yang tak sepatutnya?

konsep solat adalah ‘mencegah dari perbuatan keji dan mungkar’. Kita berikrar pada Allah lima kali sehari bahawa ‘hidupku, matiku… hanya untuk Allah’ tapi bila keluar dari solat, kita buat perkara yang tidak selari dengan ikrar kita. Sebab itu Rasulullah kata, kita sebenarnya tidak solat.

Solat sebenarnya dapat pastikan kita buat amal soleh, punca ketenangan. Jadi dalam memilih calon pasangan, pertama buat istikharah, kedua selidik. Selidik biar betul-betul, jangan sambil lewa.

Wanita bagaimana yang menjadi pilihan lelaki untuk dijadikan pasangan hidup?

Sebenarnya lelaki berkehendak kepada wanita solehah. Sebab wanita solehah inilah yang dapat melahirkan ketenangan dalam rumah tangga. Menyejukkan pandangan mata. Untuk memilih calon isteri, manusia memang sukakan kecantikan tapi nombor satu mesti agamanya.

Agamanya itu yang akan cetuskan ketenangan. Bukan saja lawa fizikal tapi lawa juga akhlaknya. Lawa yang berkekalan adalah akhlak – itu yang menyejukkan pandangan mata dan hati. Sebab kita hendak tengok dia bukan sehari dua, bukan sebulan dua tapi sepanjang usia perkahwinan.

Cuba tanya pada orang yang berkahwin, kenapa kahwin?

Pernah tak orang jawab, saya kahwin kerana Allah. Orang yang kahwin kerana Allah akan memastikan jenis pasangan yang dipilihnya. Dia akan kaji aturan Allah untuk mendapatkan pasangan.

If you start buying more than what I have listed here, your life is sure to go the wrong way. I have lived 52 years on Earth in 4 continents, so take it from me. You don't have to waste $$$ to show off how rich you are in order to be happy. Happiness comes when you spend the least but sedekah a lot.

Tuanku Najihah binti Tunku Besar Burhanuddin

Tuanku Najihah binti Tunku Besar Burhanuddin was Tunku Ampuan of Negeri Sembilan. She had also served as Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia between 1994 and 1999.

She is married to her eldest sister, Tunku Kurshiah binti Almarhum Tunku Besar Burhanuddin's stepson, Tuanku Jaafar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman and succeeded as Tunku Ampuan of Negeri Sembilan in 1967.

Born in 1 September 1924, Tuanku Najihah received her formal education at the Tuanku Muhammad School in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

Tuanku Najihah graduated from the London School of Oriental Studies. She also attended the special language and training course provided for the wives of diplomats while Tuanku Ja’afar was pursuing a course in diplomatic services in London.

Tuanku Najihah was made a committee member of the Associated Country Women of the World. Tuanku Najihah is the patron of various women’s organizations such as the Girl Guides of Negeri Sembilan, the Islamic Women’s Welfare Council and the Women’s Institute.

As an active sportswoman, Tuanku Najihah is good at hockey, netball, badminton, golf, tennis and shooting. She is the president of the Tuanku Ampuan Badminton Team, the Patron of the Malaysian Women’s Hockey Team, Malaysian Women’s Football Team, Malaysian Women’s Golf Team and the Malaysian Women’s Golf Association (MALGA).

Tuanku Najihah is known for her contributions to the poor, disabled and less fortunate. She is always ready to sacrifice her time to support a noble cause. As the patron of the Tunku Ampuan Najihah Children’s Home in Temiang, Tuanku Najihah is always mindful of the needs of its disabled and less fortunate members.

Painting, which develops creativity and instills patience and tranquility and a sense of appreciation of the aesthetics is one of Tuanku Najihah’s hobbies which she shares with the other royal members of the family.

The royal couple have three sons and three daughters. The eldest is HH Tunku Dara Naquiah followed by HRH Tunku Naquiyuddin, HH Tunku Imran, HH Tunku Puteri Jawahir, HH Tunku Irinah and the youngest HH Tunku Putera Nadzaruddin.

The Founder of Tunku Kurshiah College (TKC), Seremban, Negeri Sembilan

Tunku Kurshiah binti Almarhum Tunku Besar Burhanuddin (16 May 1911 - 2 February 1999)

She was the former Tunku Ampuan or Queen of Negeri Sembilan. In 1957, her husband was elected as the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of independent Malaya (later Malaysia) and she became Raja Permaisuri Agong or Royal Consort.

Born on 16 May 1911 in Seri Menanti, Negeri Sembilan, she was the eldest daughter of Tunku Besar Burhanuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Antah (sometime Regent of Negeri Sembilan). She received her early education at the Seri Menanti Malay School. She also attended private English classes.

Tuanku Kurshiah married Tuanku Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum Tuanku Muhammad, the ruler of Negeri Sembilan as his third wife.

Upon her husband's accession to the throne of Negeri Sembilan in 1933, Tunku Kurshiah was proclaimed Tunku Ampuan or Queen of Negeri Sembilan. In 1957, her husband was elected as the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of independent Malaya (later Malaysia) and she became Raja Permaisuri Agong or Queen.

Tuanku Abdul Rahman died in April 1960 and Tunku Kurshiah was given the dowager title of Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

In 1954, Tuanku Kurshiah was appointed as the President of the Negeri Sembilan Girl Guides. She was also the patron of the Women’s Institute of Negeri Sembilan.

In May 1961, she established the Muslim Women Welfare Council and to date she is the Founder President.

On 27 October 1974, she was awarded the Tun Fatimah Gold Medal by the National Council of Women’s Organisations for her contribution in elevating the standard of women and children through welfare and education.

She was blessed with two daughters; Tunku Bahiyah, who became Sultanah of Kedah and the fifth Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia and Tunku Shahariah, who became Tunku Puan Bendahara of Johor.

Tunku Kurshiah died on 2 February 1999 and her body is buried at the Seri Menanti Royal Mausoleum in Seri Menanti.

In memory of her contribution to the country, the Malaysian government decided to change the name of Maktab Perempuan Melayu – a prominent boarding school – to Tunku Kurshiah College. The University of Malaya also renamed its Third Residential College to Tunku Kurshiah Residential College.

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 Jan (Bernama) -- Wanita pertama yang dilantik menganggotai jemaah menteri Malaysia, Tun Dr Fatimah Hashim, 85, meninggal dunia di rumahnya pada 11.35 malam hari Sabtu kerana sakit tua.

Anak beliau, Abdul Karim Abdul Kadir berkata jenazah Allahyarham akan dikebumikan selepas solat Zuhur pada Ahad di Masjid Negara iaitu bersebelahan pusara suaminya, Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusoff iaitu bekas Peguam Negara dan Menteri Undang-Undang.

"Jenazah Allahyarham akan dikebumikan di Masjid Negara selepas menerima kebenaran daripada Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak," katanya kepada Bernama.

Allahyarham meninggalkan 6 anak.

Allahyarham dilahirkan di Kampung Parit Kurma, Muar, Johor pada 25 Dis 1924 dan mendapat pendidikan awal di Sekolah Melayu Perempuan Mersing, Johor sebelum memulakan kerjaya sebagai guru.

Allahyarham Fatimah yang dilantik sebagai Menteri Kebajikan pada 20 Mei 1969 hingga 1 Mac 1973, memasuki arena politik pada 1947 dan pernah memegang jawatan Ketua Pergerakan Kaum Ibu Umno yang kini dikenali sebagai Wanita Umno pada 11 Sept 1956 hingga Jun 1972.

Allahyarham juga pernah menyandang jawatan naib presiden Umno sebanyak tiga penggal mulai 1963 hingga 1967.

Pada 19 Ogos tahun lepas, Allahyarham dipilih sebagai seorang daripada empat rakyat Malaysia yang terkemuka dan cemerlang untuk menerima Anugerah Merdeka bagi kategori Pendidikan dan Komuniti.

She was a Malaysian freedom fighter and who later served as a minister in the Malaysian cabinet. Along with her husband, Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusuf, together they made up the first and only couple to both be ministers in the Malaysian cabinet.

The petite-framed freedom fighter, who was the United Malays National Organisation's (UMNO) 315th member, joined the struggle for independence when she was in her 20s. She was head of Kaum Ibu Malaya, later known as Wanita Umno, which is the women's wing of UMNO. She was the movement's leader for 16 years until 1972.
She saw then that there were inadequate facilities and infrastructure for the people under colonial rule, especially for health care and education.

She recalled that during her visits to Kota Bharu, she had to wait for the water level to subside before she could cross the river to visit villagers because there were no bridges. Fatimah said that working alongside luminaries such as Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tan Sri Khir Johari and Tun Abdul Razak was a great experience, and they treated each other like family. From an interview in the Malaysian newspaper The Star:

“

...I was like a kakak to Senu and adik to Khir Johari. Tunku was like a father to us. We did not fight for independence for the sake of fame. It was for our country.

”

For Fatimah, Hari Merdeka (Independence Day), August 31, 1957, was still fresh in her memory. Fatimah fondly remembered packing her three eldest children in a car and travelling from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur with her husband, the late Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusuf, to celebrate Malaya's emergence from British rule.
Fatimah attended the ceremony at Stadium Merdeka with her husband. They stayed at the late Tun Sardon Jubir's house in Kuala Lumpur and the couple took the children around the city. From The Star interview, she said:

“

I could not sleep the night before. We had an UMNO ceremony at the Royal Selangor Club field and then went to the stadium in the morning. I felt so proud of what we had achieved. I can still see Tunku at the podium crying out 'Merdeka!'.

”

She cried that day in the stadium.

After independence, her husband continued to encourage her to be involved in politics. Abdul Kadir Yusuf, who was then Attorney-General, was in government service and could not be active in politics. He advised her not to sit at home but to continue fighting and help the poor.

“

He said that if I wanted to see change, I had to be active and that I had to have a voice in Parliament if I wanted to improve the status of women.

”

He became her driver and accompanied her to meetings, something that Tun Abdul Razak used to tease the couple about.

Fatimah served as Member of Parliament and later as Welfare Minister in the Malaysian cabinet. At the same time, her husband became the Law Minister, making them the only couple to serve together in the Cabinet of Malaysia.

Fatimah was the founder and former president of the Malaysia's National Council of Women's Organisations, where she headed the organisation for 24 years.

The former Welfare Services minister had six children, 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Her eldest daughter, Mariam, was the Director-General of the Malaysian National Library and is now retired. Her second son, Mohamed Shah, has now retired as Chairman of McDonald's Malaysia (division of McDonald's), and founder of Ronald McDonald's Charity Club (RMCC) Malaysia. Her third son, Dato Professor Emeritus Dr Khalid Abdul Kadir was previously the director of Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, and is now the Head of Clinical School at Monash University Malaysia. Her fourth son Datuk Ali Abdul Kadir is an accomplished accountant who has held such prestigious positions as chairman of Ernst & Young Malaysia, a short stint as chairman of the Securities Commission, and recently retired as Chairman of Dubai Investment Group's Malaysian division. Her fifth son Abdul Karim is in business and adviser to a few public and private companies. Faridah, her youngest daughter is also an adviser to a Denmark based investment bank.

The Kadir and Fatimah Foundation recently started conferring the Tun Fatimah Award medal for the best female student active in community work for the first time in September 2007 and will be awarded annually to Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi Mara and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia students. The first recipient was Sharifah Fatimah Syed Omar of Kuala Terengganu.

Tun Fatimah Hashim died from old age on 9 January 2010. Her body was laid to rest at Makam Pahlawan in the Masjid Negara compounds beside her husband, Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusuf's grave. She was the first woman leader laid to rest there.

The appointment was to allow him to perform the duties of the then incapacitated Sultan Kelantan which was in accordance with the Kelantan state establishment act - (b) Fasal (1) dan (3) Perkara 22A Undang-undang Tubuh Kerajaan Kelantan (Bahagian Yang Kedua). This appointment would last till the present Sultan Kelantan recovered fully from his illness. This appointment was with the new title of Yang Maha Mulia (YMM). He succeeded his father as the 29th Sultan Kelantan on 13 September 2010 as announced by the Menteri Besar, YAB Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz bin Nik Mat.

She received her education from the International Islamic University (University Islam Antarabangsa UIA) and obtained a law degree. She began her career as a magistrate in Kelantan on 20 June 2006. With the job she holds she is a pioneer female magistrate in Kelantan.
